Personal Talent Representation

BECAUSE YOUR CAREER IS A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT

Our Philosophy

The Crofoot Group is a full-service talent agency for broadcast professionals that handles every aspect of your job search.  From creating an effective demo reel to tapping our extensive network of contacts to find out about new opportunities, we work with you to help achieve your goals, not just help you get to a larger market.  So many factors need to be weighed before accepting a new position and our experience can help you make the best possible decision for your career.

We are known for representing individuals, not huge rosters of clients, and as a result we are able to look after our clients' careers, not simply look for the next job.  Often a talent agency will take on a new client without any regard for how that might conflict with its current clients.  The result is the need to send many clients out for every new job opening.  By design, we at The Crofoot Group avoid this by only taking on new clients when our current roster has a clear opening in it.  We only take clients whose availability won't conflict with our current clients.

This is one factor that truly gives The Crofoot Group an edge in pitching you for that next job.  You will get the attention your career deserves and not become just another demo reel amongst many.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need an agent in the first place?

It is essential that you consider your long-term career goals when you search for a new job.  Our years of experience can help you make a better-informed decision, taking your goals into account, so that you make the right step to position yourself well for the next one.  Another reason is that while we understand that sometimes you may hear about a job opening, the vast majority of openings are only unearthed through our wide array of contacts with news managers.  Once you get the job, negotiation is another area that requires expertise.  You need to know what salary each station and market will bear.  It also helps to have an agent to provide a layer of insulation when in an aggressive negotiation.  It is very difficult to play hardball with a news director who will be your boss in the immediate future.  In addition, the job of an agent isn't only limited to finding and negotiating a job for you.  More often than not, there are a myriad of concerns that present themselves in the middle of your deal with a station.  Being able to bounce your concerns off a seasoned veteran can help you tackle any problem that may, and frequently does, arise.

What services do you provide?

We handle every aspect of your job search.  From creating an effective demo reel to tapping our extensive network of contacts to find out about new opportunities, we work with you to help you achieve your goals, not just help you get to a larger market.  So many factors need to be weighed before accepting a new position and our experience can help you make the best possible decision for your career. We are here not just to help land that great job, but to give seasoned guidance in order to help you keep it and grow.  We also provide extensive coaching for your on-air work.  We encourage our clients to send us samples of their work on a regular basis so we can give them our feedback and work towards constantly improving their performance.  News directors rarely have enough time to give their employees comments on their work, so we help fill the gap and strive to help our clients improve.

How do I submit my demo reel to The Crofoot Group?

We would love to see some of your work!  Feel free to send us an email with your short and long-term career goals along with a link to a reel of your work/resume.  Feel free to also send us your reel on DVD or memory stick if you prefer.  After receiving it, we will contact you as soon as we are able.

What material should be on my demo reel?

Your demo reel can be anywhere from five to fifteen minutes long.  You can start it with a short montage of various clips of your work, but this is not absolutely necessary if you don't have the editing capability.  That's part of what we do.  Reporters should include at least two or three packages and hopefully a few live shots, if possible.  Anchors should include several longer anchor blocks and a live shot or two, if possible.  Sportscasters should submit a few full-length sportscasts and weathercasters should include a few full-length weathercasts.  It is easier for us, and consequently news directors, to evaluate your work if you include several of these two to four minute segments.

Do you create demo reels for your clients?

Yes.  We view all of the material a client sends us, taking careful notes, in our offices.  When we are ready to edit the demo reel, each agent goes to a local post-production house and sits down with a professional editor in order to create the sharpest quality demo.  Each reel is then output to DVD and those are what we send to prospective stations.  We found that most agencies try to produce demo reels in-house, resulting in a less than wonderful final result.  Nothing done in-house can match the quality of a dedicated post-production facility.  We decided to take advantage of the pool of world-class editors found here in Los Angeles.

If I work with The Crofoot Group, won't I be competing against your other clients?

Simply, no.  This is our advantage and it becomes yours.  No matter how the largest agencies frame the discussion, for them the bottom line is that you will not be getting your agent's individual attention when a job you want opens up.  Your demo will be placed on a list of links or in a box with MANY other clients that your agent or their agency already represents.  How could you possibly think that you will be pitched individually when your agent probably represents 100 clients or more, many of whom are looking for work?  This is where we come in.  By design, we only accept new clients for our roster when there will be no foreseeable conflict of interest with other clients currently looking for jobs.  It is our policy to pitch one person for a position and pitch that client well.  And that's the bottom line.  You will get the attention your career deserves and not become just another reel in a list of links.
